What Happens at a Sound Bath?

Sound Baths can be a perfect way to unwind and begin let go physically, mentally and emotionally.

Sound Baths use vibrational sound and frequency to help rebalance the energy body, leaving you feeling more relaxed in both body and mind.

During a Sound Bath, different instruments are played (such as gongs, singing bowls, chimes and/or a handpan). As you rest and listen to the vibrational harmonies of the instruments, your brain responds to the sounds, producing lower frequency brainwaves, which are associated with a more meditative, peaceful state of mind.

That calming effect encourages both the mind and body to move from ‘fight or flight’ mode towards ‘rest and digest’ mode, aided by a greater focus on the breath and, in turn, perhaps a heightened awareness of the present moment.

All you need to do is lie down comfortably and snuggle up under a blanket or two (or sleeping bag/duvet), close your eyes and allow the sound waves of the ancient instruments to wash over you as you begin to disconnect from the world around you and let go of some of the constant mental chatter that we all experience.

The benefits of a Sound Bath can include: stress reduction; decreased anxiety and depression; better memory and improved sleep.

Each Sound Bath is different but they can be a blissful way to give yourself some space - to think, to let go of thinking, to breathe, to simply be.

Sound Baths aren’t for everyone. They are not suitable for those with sound induced epilepsy; anyone in the first trimester of pregnancy or those who wear a pacemaker or other fitted electronic device (including some hearing aids).

If you’d like to experience a Sound Bath for yourself, make sure to book one of our Yin Yoga & Sound Bath events at the Hub at St Mary’s in Lichfield.
