What Type of Yoga is best for me?
MINDFUL YOGA
A fully rounded yoga class, incorporating posture work, breathing practices exploring how we can use our breath to support us, both on and off the mat, and meditation and relaxation techniques aiming at calming and quietening the mind. We look at some of the teachings of the ancient wisdom traditions and how these can be applied to our contemporary lives. Students work at their own pace, with variations and modifications offered and the use of props encouraged. Suitable for everyone, from beginners to more experienced students.
GENTLE yoga
A traditional yoga class but we take things nice and slow, making use of lots of props and adapting postures to ensure that they are accessible even if you have some mobility issues (for example, some postures can be adapted so that you can do them sitting on a chair or standing against a wall, rather than on the floor). In addition to posture work, breathing practices and meditation aimed at quietening and calming the mind also feature. Ideal for students looking for a more gentle yoga class.
YIN YOGA
Yin yoga is a slow, meditative practice. The emphasis is on cultivating stillness and attention as we stay in shapes for significant periods of time.
Most shapes are seated or lying on the floor and are generally held for between 3 to 5 minutes at a time. As we relax into the shapes, we stress the deep connective tissues of the body. If practised mindfully and with awareness, this can help to lubricate and strengthen the joints and reduce physical and mental tension.
The practice is suitable for all, including beginners.
restorative yoga
We all need rest. But may of us have forgotten how to rest properly. We often find stillness positively uncomfortable, both on a physical and mental level.
In Restorative yoga, we use props to support the physical body in positions of comfort and ease for 5 to 20 minutes at a time to facilitate a deep relaxation response. This opens the door for the brain and senses to quieten and for us to completely let go.
When practised regularly, Restorative yoga has been demonstrated to help heal the effects of chronic stress and improve general wellbeing.
Restorative yoga can be practised by anyone, including complete beginners and those with ongoing illness and/or recovering from injury or surgery.
